Jennifer Berman, Esq.
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Jen Berman is an employee benefits attorney. In that capacity, Jen routinely negotiates service contracts and drafts employee benefit plans, summary plan descriptions and employee communications. She also reviews client benefit programs for compliance with the Internal Revenue Code, ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, ACA, wellness plan rules and other applicable statutes.
Since the passage of the Affordable Care Act in 2010, Jen has also become an “ACA compliance educator.” She is a leader in analyzing health care reform developments and frequently serves as a speaker and commentator on a wide variety of health care reform and employee benefits issues.
In addition to serving as CEO of MZQ Consulting, LLC, Jen is also a member of Holder Law Group LLC. Prior to joining Holder Law, Jen practiced at Venable LLP as part of their Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation practice group. Jen graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she was Editor-in-Chief of the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Labor and Employment Law. Jen also completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Political Science. She is an avid lover of textile arts, frequently wearing stunning pieces she has hand-crafted herself.
CHIEF INFORMATION & INNOVATION OFFICER
Jim is both the CIIO and the data processing software developer of MZQ Consulting, LLC. He is entirely responsible for designing our custom programming efforts.
Jim has over 30 years of experience programming computers in a variety of languages, and specializes in Requirements Analysis, System Performance Analysis, System Architectural Analysis, Modelling and Simulation, Statistical Trending, Automated Report Generation, DataMart Technology, Earned Value Reporting, and Project Management.
Before his work with MZQ, Jim enjoyed an extensive career as a systems engineer and a program manager. His early career was spent supporting NASA projects, including the Hubble Space Telescope and the International Space Station, and implementing payment processing systems for state governments. Prior to joining MZQ, Jim worked supporting the Department of Labor (DOL), where he generated Program Performance Reports for the federal government.
Jim earned both his undergraduate and advanced degrees from the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering; graduating with an M.Sc.(Eng) in Systems Engineering and cum laude with a B.S. in Systems Science and Engineering. Jim’s hobbies include stunt-kite flying and candle making.
VICE PRESIDENT, OPERATIONS
Jennifer is a well-rounded HR/Payroll professional with over 15 years of experience in these disciplines. Before joining MZQ, Jennifer led a variety of teams, including payroll operations at ADP and HRIS/benefits at Maxim Healthcare Services.
Jennifer earned her undergraduate degree from Towson University, graduating cum laude with a B.S. in Business Administration. Jennifer obtained certification from the American Payroll Association (APA) as a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) in 2004. In 2010, she received the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification from the HR Certification Institute (HRCI). In 2015, Jennifer received the SHRM-CP certification from the Society of Human Resources (SHRM).
Jen LaTour, JD, CHRS
VICE PRESIDENT, CLIENT ENGAGEMENT
Jennifer LaTour handles a broad range of ACA, compliance, human resources and employee benefits matters. Jen is a compliance expert in such complex laws as ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, IRC, and FMLA and is regarded as a subject-matter expert on the Affordable Care Act and related topics. Jennifer regularly counsels MZQ clients and team members regarding ongoing benefits compliance issues.
Jennifer has spent most of her career working in compliance and human resource roles. Early in her career, she served as Assistant Public Defender and Judicial Staff Attorney for the Seventh Judicial Circuit in Daytona Beach, Florida. Since then, Jennifer has served in a compliance capacity at organizations such as the Schaumburg, IL Police Department, Allstate Insurance and Pepsi Bottling Group. Before coming to the MZQ Consulting, LLC, Jennifer was Compliance and HR Technology Manager at The Insurance Exchange in their Employee Benefits Division.
Jen graduated from Stetson University College of Law in 2000 and completed her graduate studies at the Pennsylvania State University, graduating with a Master’s of Professional Studies and Human Resources and Employee Relations in 2012. Jennifer is also a Certified Health Reform Specialist.
SENIOR DIRECTOR, IT
Heidi joined MZQ in 2016 as a member of the IT/data team. She has over 20 years experience in IT working in a wide range of industries including healthcare, government, and law enforcement.
Heidi earned her undergraduate degree in Business Administration and Computer Information Systems from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. She currently resides in Northern Virginia with her husband and children.
Lee Susan Spiegel
DIRECTOR OF COMPLIANCE
Lee joined MZQ Consulting in 2017 and now serves as our Director of Compliance. Prior to joining MZQ, she spent over 25 years as a practicing paralegal. She is a member of the National Federation of Paralegal Associates (NFPA), a member of the Maryland Association of Paralegals (MAP), and a former chairman of the University of Maryland Paralegal Studies Advisory Board.
Lee earned her bachelor’s degree and certificate in Paralegal Studies from the University of Maryland. She is an active volunteer with the National Kidney Foundation focusing her efforts in the area of patient education. Lee lives with her husband in Baltimore.
DIRECTOR OF TECHNICAL IMPLEMENTATION
Alan Klein is the Director of Technical Implementation, and our resident data wizard. He joined MZQ in 2015 as a Data Processing Manager and was quickly promoted to his current position. Before working for MZQ, Alan spent 10 years as a Marketing Manager for several magazine publishers in New York, including Primedia and InterMedia Outdoors.
Alan earned a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, with concentrations in Operations & Information Management, as well as Marketing. He lives with his wife and children in New Jersey.
DIRECTOR OF IT
Josh Berman has over 17 years of experience in system development, internet technologies and customer support. Josh joined MZQ at the very beginning, implementing state-of-the-art technologies and developing our Cloud environment. He continues to maintain our Cloud infrastructure, assist clients, oversee our databases, and handle internet security.
Prior to MZQ, Josh worked at Roadnet Technologies (formerly UPS Logistics Technologies) as a Team Lead, where he provided client support for their proprietary software, led a team of support specialists, and handled web service integrations and database support.
Josh earned his B.S. in Computer and Information Science from the University of Delaware with a concentration in Systems Administration. He lives with his wife and children in Baltimore, and is a huge Ravens fan.
